EPT Berlin winner
After an eventful week, EPT Berlin quickly became the most talked about story in the poker world and beyond, after news that an armed robbery had taken place on day four of the event. After the highs and lows, Kevin MacPhee won the inaugural EPT Berlin on Sunday, winning a first prize of €1 million and a seat to the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo next month. The event was the first in Berlin, after previous German legs of the tour were staged in Dortmund, and was held at the Grand Hyatt hotel near Potsdamer Platz. It was also the first EPT event to have a guaranteed first prize, the €1 million enticing a near record turnout of 945 players, including Team PokerStars Pro and SportStar Boris Becker. The tour now heads into the Alps with another first: EPT Snowfest. Details can be found on www.ept.com.
All uphill for Snowfest
With Berlin done it’s on to Snowfest, another new addition to the tour’s sixth season that takes players high into the Austrian Alps for poker and the odd bit of snow based fun. Players who win their package on PokerStars not only receive their buy-in for the tournament and travel expenses, but also get ski passes to the nearby slopes - presumably nurses will be on standby. The action starts on Sunday 21 March with the final table taking place on Friday 26 March. Follow all the action on the PokerStars Blog.
Team PokerStars Pros heads-up
Team PokerStars Pro Dennis Phillips was the best of the bunch at the annual Heads Up championship in Las Vegas. Phillips, who finished third in the World Series main event in 2008 earning more than $4.5 million, defeated Kara Scott, Chris Ferguson, Eli Elezra and Doyle Brunson before losing to eventual winner Annie Duke in the semi finals, a result worth $125,000. A total of 14 Team PokerStars Pros took part, other good results including those for former World Champion Peter Eastgate and Jason Mercier, both of whom reached the quarter finals earning $75,000. Barry Greenstein and Chris Moneymaker also made the money.
LAPT Chile cancelled
After the massive earthquake struck the country PokerStars has announced the cancellation of the LAPT Chile event that was scheduled to take place in Vina del Mar between 19-23 March. The decision comes after the earthquake, measuring 8.8 in magnitude, occurred 175 miles south of the venue. Much of the country is still in the recovery phase. It was also announced that players who qualified on PokerStars or who bought in, will be refunded in full, including any out of pocket expenses. PokerStars ask players to contact lapt@pokerstars.com with any queries. Details of the decision are also available on the PokerStars Blog.
